EXTRACTIONS & MINOR ORAL SURGERY
Dentist and patients normally do not like extraction
teeth. Unfortunately, in some cases teeth have
to be extracted for example (create space for
crowded teeth, Badly broken teeth, Teeth which
have severe bone loss around, angled
teeth, wisdom teeth...etc).
Not all extracted teeth need to be replaced. In
case you would like fill the gap with an artificial
tooth you may do so by means of:
• Removable denture.
• Bridge.
• Implant
Your dentist should give you advise to the best
solution that will suit your needs.
Dentist can perform the majority of extractions
by the use of local anesthesia. You should not
feel any pain during the extraction. Your dentist
will do a test to ensure that you do not feel pain
during the procedure. If pain still persists your
dentist may decide to give you some more anesthesia
or postpone the procedure and prescribe some pain
killers & antibiotics.
The majority of teeth can be extracted without
surgery. However, in some cases some teeth do
have to be removed by surgery which also can be
done using local anesthesia, for example (angled
wisdom tooth, teeth that are bound to the jaw,
submerged teeth under the gum partially
erupted).
After the extraction slight pain may expected but
usually relative with minor analgesic given
immediately after or before surgery. Some extraction
may result in mini fractures
and requires 4 –6 weeks to heal properly. To control
the pain your dentist usually prescribe for you
painkillers with or without antibiotics.
You must keep the site of the extraction clean
by rinsing with warm water & salt after hours
and instruction after extraction to prevent the site from
becoming infected.
