DENTAL FILLINGS
These are restorations done on the tooth surface
which has been affected by decay. The fillings
are placed on the tooth after the decay has been
removed.
There are a variety of fillings but the most
commonly used fillings are:
a. Amalgam Fillings ( also known as silver fillings)
b. Composite fillings ( also known as tooth colored
fillings)
The amalgam fillings are known to be long lasting
and stronger than most fillings used for
restorations and almost always used in the posterior
tooth because of its color.
The composite fillings or tooth colored fillings are
used in the anterior teeth.
These fillings have a variety of shades which can be
matched with the original tooth color so that it is
difficult to differentiate between the tooth and
fillings.
Recently tooth colored fillings with enough strength
has been made available in the market which can be
used in the posterior teeth.
This is a big advantage for those patients who do
not like silver fillings in their mouth.
