It is understandable that pregnant women are concerned about seeking dental treatment  because of the fear to what may happen to the fetus. Thus they do not seek treatment until there is sever pain, swelling or infection. Therefore it is advisable to visit your dentist before planning to get pregnant because pregnant patients' are prone to develop advanced gum disease which in many cases present with very little symptoms and is very difficult to rebuild the destructed tissue after formed. However, studies have proven no harm will arise to the mother & the fetus by dental treatment. The same applies for breast feeding mother dental treatment is safe for breast feeding mothers. Therefore, Emergency dental treatment for pregnant women in pain must not be postponed and can be done at any time during the pregnancy without harming the mother or the fetus.
